PL/0132/22 – Uffington School, School Lane, Uffington -To install Secondary internal glazing to admin office and Heads office and remove and replace 4no. windows to classroom 10 on the South and East elevations of the school building and install safeguarding fencing on front of the wall and in Playground area. Beekeeping Agreement between Uffington Parish Council
and
Uffington Bee Co Op…………………………………………………….
Regarding keeping of hives on the Uffington Allotments
This agreement is between the hive owner: Uffington Bee C…, here forth referred to as ‘the beekeeper’ and Uffington Parish Council here forth referred to as the ‘PC’.
The hives and occupying bees are the property of the beekeeper and shall remain so.
Any person wishing to keep bees at the Uffington Village Allotment land must first seek the agreement, by applying in writing, of Uffington Parish Council. No bees shall be kept on any allotment land until this agreement has been signed and permission given in writing. The Parish Council reserves the right to issue 28 days’ notice for removal of hives.
The beekeeper’s responsibilities and what should be expected of them
- Duty of care to
- the public in the vicinity of the hives
- other visitors to the Allotment
- To maintain the hives in a healthy state all year round and care for the bees’ welfare
- To take all steps possible to ensure the bees do not become a nuisance to anyone
- To manage the colony and try their best to prevent swarms
- To visit the hives regularly from April to August
- To visit at least monthly at other times of year
- To keep the apiary clean and tidy
- To ensure the safe disposal of smoker ashes to avoid risk of fires
- To do their best to attend if there is a swarm event
- To display publicly beekeeper’s contact details
- To limit the number of hives to 5 colonies (as appropriate to the site and to include splits during the swarm season.
- Ensure that they are sufficiently covered by liability insurance for their beekeeping activities such as through the BBKA Insurance scheme or other arranged indemnity and public liability. (copies of insurance documents to be provided)
- Provide a risk assessment
- To ensure hives are registered with the National Bee Unit
- To have a contingency plan that can be executed should hives become diseased.
- Provide and display guidance for stings
- To inform the PC of any proposals that fall outside of this agreement
The Parish Council responsibilities
- Carry out a yearly inspection
- Ensure the site is managed as per this agreement
Withdrawal of Consent
The Parish Council reserves the right to issue 28 days notice for the removal of the hives if:
- The beekeeper contravenes any of the above conditions
- The beekeeper contravenes any condition within the Allotment Tenancy Agreement
- Substantiated information is received that requires a review of the arrangements
- If an allotment tenant no longer keeps tenancy of an allotment plot, then he or she will no longer be permitted to keep bees anywhere on the allotment site and will be required to remove the hives before tenancy of the plot terminates
